Fairtrade Fortnight - September 2023
Montville Coffee, as a Fairtrade Certified coffee roaster, knows that through the Fairtrade Minimum Price, and the Fairtrade Premium, we are part of a growing trade system that assists our growers and their communities to build resilience against their own sustainability challenges.
Montville Coffee and the current market
You may already be aware from news coverage that over the last 6 to 12 months, coffee prices and international freight prices have soared, whilst the Australian dollar has been steadily losing value against the US dollar. In our ongoing commitment to our valued customers and with the goal of transparency in mind we would like to provide a little more information about the current market changes and how they are affecting us.
Bringing Back The Trust: Business Transparency
B Corp businesses want to reveal how business can be a force for good and how this new way of doing business is changing the world. This month, Montville Coffee has spent some time highlighting our successes within the B Corp framework and reflecting on the challenges we face and how we are working on them.
International Women's Day in 2022
Women do amazing work at Montville Coffee. They have long broken the gendered roles in the manufacturing industry, they hold positions of leadership, and they work hard to empower everyone in our team. But we acknowledge that this isn’t always easy. The equality and strength we see in our team is the result of an overt consciousness to hire for diversity and a significant investment in capacity building that has taken time.
The Growing Women in Coffee Project
On this International Women’s Day 2022, Montville Coffee wants to recognise the work done by women to make our business great. Here in Australia we value the role women play in every part of our supply chain. Locally, we work hard to make sure women are given the opportunities they deserve but this can be harder to achieve with our producers overseas.
Women and girls are agents of change
Over the past decades, the global community has made a lot of effort in inspiring and engaging women in science. Yet there is still a lot of progress to be made. A major theme on this international day is recognising women and girls in science, not only as beneficiaries but also as agents of change.
We love progress
We are celebrating even more progress with Fairtrade’s Coffee Standard. If you are like to know a little bit more about what really goes on behind the Fairtrade label - here is a quick and easy read about updates to that Fairtrade Coffee Standard.
Education is such a privilege
This year marks the fourth International Day of Education. With a number of educators on our team, we really feel passionate about this topic. We acknowledge the following article delves into some deep ideas and heavy issues and we’d love you to hold onto the idea of collaboration and working together as you have a read through.
Does buying Fairtrade really help vulnerable children?
On the 20th of November World Children’s Day is celebrated universally to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improve children’s welfare. At Montville Coffee we often consider the rights of the child with the knowledge that we work in an industry rife with exploitation.
Our actions are our future
On the 15th of October World Food Day ceremonies are set to take place all over the world. The World Day Celebration calls for the transformation of agri-food systems to ensure that everyone, everywhere has access to enough, affordable, safe and nutritious food to lead active and healthy lives.
A cup of coffee and a bit of peace and quiet
Peacefulness is an inner sense of calm that can come in moments of silent gratitude or prayer. It is a way of getting very quiet and looking at things so you can understand them. The 21st of September is International Day of Peace. The United Nations has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideas of peace.
Montville Coffee Staff Discuss ‘Why Fairtrade?’
As Fairtrade Fortnight came to a close last week, our staff took some time to reflect on what it means to us to be part of the Fairtrade movement. It is far too easy to get caught up in the day to day happenings of the workplace and the hard things around us.
