Cameron’s recipe for success at the Mapleton Public House
Welcome back to the Queensland Sunshine Pantry, where we're delighted to introduce you to one of our esteemed customers, Cameron Matthews, the Executive Chef at Mapleton Public House – a venue that promises both culinary excellence and breathtaking views.
Nestled 400 metres above sea level, the Mapleton Public House occupies a historic 114-year-old building with commanding east-facing vistas stretching from the Blackall Range via the silhouette of Mt Coolum to the coastline. Adorned with the blossoms of surrounding Jacaranda trees, its classic Queensland wrap-around balcony remains a cherished feature, embodying the beating heart of this Hinterland town.
Cameron Matthews, known for his culinary prowess honed during his tenure as Head Chef at Spicers Long Apron Restaurant in Montville and later as Group Executive Chef for the Spicers Group, brings his passion for sustainability and traceability to every dish. In a perfect union, Cameron collaborates with 'Publiqueen' Jessica Huddart and her husband Ben Johnson to transform the former Mapleton Tavern into the Mapleton Public House.
With Cameron's dedication to sourcing ingredients and Jessica and Ben's ownership of 'Falls Farms', just 3km away, the Mapleton Public House is poised to deliver one of the coast's finest paddock-to-plate experiences. Cameron's culinary philosophy of ‘new classic’ dishes showcases wholesome, flavourful creations where the ingredients shine as true heroes on the plate.
Whether you're seated on the wide verandah or by the original fireplaces, expect a warm dose of country charm and hospitality. And to conclude your dining journey, indulge in a cup of Montville Coffee's Woodford Blend – an exquisite finale to a grounded yet elevated experience.
Montville Coffee is thrilled to be a part of this culinary endeavour that celebrates the bounty of the region while reaching new heights of gastronomic delight.
