Montville Coffee is an organisation driven by questions.

  • How can we be sure that there isn’t child slavery in our supply chain?
  • How are our coffee growers responding to a changing climate?
  • How can we inspire young people to become thoughtful consumers and purpose-driven entrepreneurs?
  • How do we align our business strategy to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and measure and manage our contribution?

For nearly two decades we been sharing what we are learning about these and other questions with students and educators.

Montville Coffee also offers industry best practice barista skills and hospitality training, business case studies and hands on workshops.

QCAA Senior Syllabuses
Since early 2002, we have explored with local educators how to break down the barriers between schools and businesses in order to improve student outcomes.

With the release of the new Queensland Senior Curriculum, we are learning with educators about questions such as:

  • What effect would a single business case study explored over several semesters have on how well students achieve the key learning objectives of the QCAA Business Senior Syllabus?
  • What elements of a collaborative approach between educators and Montville Coffee leaders are the most effective in removing barriers between school and industry?

2020 Review from the Hospitality Faculty Sunshine Coast Grammar School - Erin Kennelly

"Montville Coffee brings a wealth of knowledge and truth related to the Organic Coffee Industry. The students were engaged and involved throughout their seminar.
Karen is a passionate educator who interacts well with students.

The PPT gave great pictures for students to also utilise in their article. Content married up well with the pre-written questions. Bean activity at the start gave them some insight into the Fairtrade issue/area of their article. Personal journey into the business world also great food for thought for them as a group and individually

For schools to have access to such an experienced business operator, that is a leader within the sustainable field, coupled with an education background, is a real win for schools."

2018 Review from the Commerce Faculty – St Andrew’s Anglican College
“Our Year 11 BCT students visited Montville Coffee to broaden their knowledge of workplace sustainability. The program was very engaging and provided an excellent opportunity for the students to gain first-hand insights from those involved in running a business based on a Fairtrade framework.

Students were able to see what we teach in the classroom applied to real-life scenarios, which is invaluable, and doing so in such a positive and encouraging environment was an added bonus.

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us and for helping us inspire the next generation of business leaders.”

CERTIFIED FAIRTRADE & ORGANIC

Third-party certification cuts through empty words

When we say that as part of our company values we support our coffee farming communities and the protection of the environment, we don’t ask you: ‘take our word for it’. We want those values to stand on their own and want you to be able to rely on independent third party certification. Through our longstanding relationship with Fairtrade we have been able to witness first hand this transformative impact.
