FRESHLY ROASTED COFFEE

Coffee begins to stale as soon as it is roasted so the challenge for the roaster is to handle and package the coffee in such a way as to minimize the staling process. Heat, humidity and oxygen are all enemies of fresh coffee. To ensure you have the freshest coffee possible, at Montville Coffee we roast to order, then package the beans immediately in special coffee bags fitted with a one way valve that allows the fresh coffee to "degas" without letting air in.

If you order beans, then you can store the beans in the freezer, grinding them just before making the coffee. If ground coffee is what you’re after, then keep it in an airtight container out of the freezer, so as not to absorb humidity into the grounds. Also, buy smaller quantities more often, rather than a bulk lot that will go stale over time. Fresh coffee has a wonderful, enticing aroma, a thick rich layer of dark brown crema, and a complex flavour.
